Fast Hands

Yesterday was [livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn and [livejournal.com profile] zero_design's handfasting. It was the first Wiccan ritual I've attended, and it was a pretty and fanciful ceremony. The celebration was held beneath an enormous tree in Odell Park, and since the day was both gorgeous and unseasonably warm, it made the event all the more lovely. People ought to wear flowers and ribbons in their hair more often. It would make the world an extra-pleasant place.

After the ceremony, everyone went inside the Odell Lodge for a potluck feast. There was everything from bread and honey to pasta salad and sushi. And there was plenty of homemade iced tea to be had, as well. While everyone was contentedly munching away, I began to dance. Since Kathryn has seen me dance so often, I wanted to wear something she'd never seen, and perform to something she'd never heard. I chose "Cafe Europa" by Deep Forest, which is a very nontraditional song, mixing Rroma music with Pygmy chants, and all sorts of other world music collisions. I wore pleated metallic gold pants, a brown and gold hip scarf, my brown and gold tribal belt, a black bra with gold and pearl detailing, and an earthy brown chiffon veil. I even tried out a move for Kathryn I've never yet done in performance: a standing backbend down to the floor. I think I should do this more often. It's a dramatic transition to floor moves.

Now, I knew Kathryn would be itching to dance. And so would Nigel and [livejournal.com profile] littlekeltie. So I brought in extra hip scarves, and we all danced a drum solo together. And then, when he'd recuperated a bit, Nigel danced to "Simarik" by Tarkan.

[livejournal.com profile] f00dave took many pictures. I'll post the good ones when I get them.

After the celebrations had drawn to a close, we all went for a drink at the Lunar Rogue, where I was spotted by my high school physics teacher. I'm surprised he remembered me. I graduated in 1989, and I wasn't exactly a top physics student. But maybe that's why he remembered me. I did get a fair amount of extra help from him. Still, I think I look quite different now. Not different enough, I guess!

[Attack of the Killer Dildos]

While walking back from the Rogue, I "accidentally" let it slip that I really wanted to play in a tabletop game of Vampire. [livejournal.com profile] zero_design took the bait, and it looks like a game will soon be starting. Hoorah! I haven't done any role playing in a very long time, and I've been itching to do so for even longer. You see, the last RPG I was part of was not my cup of tea. It was far more dice-rolling- and math-oriented than I like my gaming to be. So now I can make up a character. I've had a Malkavian concept in mind for several years, and this just might be my chance to finally play it. Whee!

The evening was finished off by watching a couple of flicks: Kull the Conqueror (which was actually worse than I anticipated) and Attack of the Killer Dildos (which was exactly as bad as I thought it would be).
