It's coming up on photo progress day: my cam, my tape measure, and no mercy. Who else is up for it?

Today I'm getting interviewed by a researcher for some sort of psychology/sociology project on Aboriginals' life experiences. It should be interesting, and I get a $25 gift card for my participation. Woo!

It's also gym day. Time to make those muscles bigger and stronger. This morning, while I languished in bed trying to get back to sleep after a premature wake-up, I contemplated changing the way I do my front planks. I think I'm going to attempt to hold 90-second crocodile asana, instead. I don't expect I'll be able to hold it for 90 seconds for quite some time, but when I can, well, I'll be impressed with myself.

In case you don't know what that asana looks like, it's this:

[Crocodile]

(Check out the website that picture is from. It looks like a nice yoga resource.)

Link time!

Judge Stuffed Acorns With Condoms: He handed them out to unsuspecting women. Even better, he's from Intercourse, Pennsylvania.

Squirrels masturbate to avoid sexually transmitted infections: What squirrels really do with their nuts.

Converse...pants?: I like these, but how on earth would you launder them?

Today's baking/cooking projects are:
- Vegetarian Boston Baked Beans
- Honey Yoghourt Cheese
- Flaxseed, Fig, and Walnut Crackers

Mmmm.

Holy crap, but I sure am looking forward to my weekend!

Thank you for the reminder about pictures. A friend of mine with a decent photography set-up offered to help me with my progress photos. I need to make an appointment with her. I have my immersion body-fat test tomorrow morning.

When I am capable of doing Crocodile Pose, I will totally get a photo. That day is not today. Thank you for posting the link to that yoga site. Why have I never before heard of Twisting Downward Facing Dog? That looks like crazy dangerous fun!

Isaac Stoltzfus, eh? Don't get much more Dutchy than that, and out in Lancaster County people get seriously creepy. It's almost like the Innsmouth of Pennsylvania, that area. (There are also towns down that way called Blue Ball and Virginsville. If I recall correctly, you can in fact drive on the same road from Virginsville through Blue Ball to Intercourse.)

This is tape measure weekend for me. I am pessimistic, as the scale took an unwanted and unexpected upward tick this week (I can't even blame hormones).

I found that 60 seconds of the crocodile asana was much more taxing to my triceps and posterior delts than it was for the core. interested to see if your findings are similar, or different.

What's the difference between this asana and a traditional plank?

Regular plank is done in one of two ways, IIRC:

- The top position of a pushup
- Elbows bent, so the entire length of the forearm is on the floor

Essentially, the upper arm will be perpendicular to the floor, as opposed to parallel to it as in this version.

Mmhmm.

A regular plank looks like this:

The crocodile position is a LOT harder, IMO. Regular plank doesn't do a whole lot for the arms, but the crocodile really works those triceps something fierce.

ok, thanks. so apparently what i've been doing is crocodiles all these years, not planks. It's simply "down pushup position, hold."

well, except for the detail that we use knuckles. I hereby declare it a "nucodile." :D
