Danse du Jour

I think this clip is both unusual and excellent. It's a tap performance, choreographed by The Stripes, used in the finale of Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi. It's not every day I get to see taiko drumming paired with a huge tap sequence done in kimonos and Mugen slippers.

Shan - All I'm getting is a vid of a black cat eating a zuchinni...

I love that movie!!!! Well worth checking out the whole thing. There are a few geisha dance solos that are absolutely lovely.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, you should. There are two percussion interludes done by carpenters and farmers.

This movie is FABULOUS. I need to get it on DVD...loved the playful use of percussion and the dancing. XD

BTW 'Mugen slippers' isn't actually a name of anything, the commenter was merely referring to the shoes worn by a character named Mugen in the anime 'Samurai Champloo'. The shoes in the clip look like modified geta (traditional wooden clogs), designed to be tap-friendly.

Thanks. I hadn't quite gotten my fill of random yet today.
