Friday I Danced

Here's what I did yesterday.

In case you care, I'm the long-haired one in the black sports bra or bright green t-shirt (depending on how warm I was) and short black pants.

The workshop was brutally intense, ranging from deeply emotional to vigorously athletic. I wish I could train this way regularly.

And here is what some of Dave St. Pierre's stuff looks like on stage (warning: chock full of nekkid).

did you know they would be videoing it or was it your camera? that would freak me out, though I find it difficult to pick things up in class so almost always ducked out of contemporary rep classes

I knew part was being videotaped. I didn't mind. I'm used to being on camera. I wasn't even sure when they were filming, because I was so intent on the material.

In all seriousness, okay? Minute 1:23 of the warm-up: How do you do that without bruising or rug-burning your tailbone? Because I would love to do stuff like that, but the last time I tried something similar (just a month or so ago), it was not a good scene.

I can balance on my tailbone just fine. Boat pose is no problem. But how do I keep from rubbing that spot raw when I move on it? Got any (heh) pointers?

I have a hard time with it myself, as well as with boat pose in yoga. I have bones that stick out everywhere. The only thing I can suggest is doing it on a cushy mat. I sometimes take a workout mat (thicker than a yoga mat) and put a yoga mat over top. It helps.

I sucked it up for the warmup. We didn't do it too long, so it wasn't dreadful.

Dang. I was hoping I was just missing something that was an easy fix. Like flexing my glutes in a particular way, or changing how I balance. *sigh*

Guess I'll be shelling out some bucks for a thicker mat.

If you find another way, let me know! I'll bet you can avoid buying a new mat, if you just put a folded-up blanket under a yoga mat.

I tried that with some towels, but then I had an uneven surface. So when I was doing these leg-swing-around things, I kept wobbling. The movement at 2:37 of this workout (that's the exact level I was doing) is what caused my *cough* "injury."
