shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)

Today, my internet habits have been cyberbran. )

I'd hoped to make a ring today, but due to unforseen circumstances not quite beyond my control, it won't be ready for at least another day. I tossed the piece in the tumbler, not considering the effect steel shot would have on silver tubing. I ended up with a tube jammed full of steel. It took a lot of poking and prying to get them out in conjunction with reheating. I firescaled the hell out of my poor ring, so the day was spent sanding and sanding and sanding some more. Tomorrow, I want to polish it up and set two pink zirconia.

The ring is a very simple but elegant design. I think it may be my competition piece.

And speaking of competitions, I need to enter a design competition sponsored in New York. I'd better think up something good. I don't have to construct it. I just need to render it.

At lunch, I attended an entrepreneurship meeting. I'm going to try for a student venture loan this summer. I may also join a cooperative of fellow artists and travel to sell at various festivals and craft shows. I think this sounds a hell of a lot better than being a grocery store cashier again.

When I got home tonight, I went and checked out the squabs. Bukkake and Japscat are bigger and have more feathers. They look less like feather-covered grey scrotums and more like birds, although they're certainly nowhere near beautiful. One of them stared at me steadily, showing not even the slightest amount of distress. I think that when they're at this age, they don't know enough to be afraid. That must come later. And then they cycle back to fearless, and that's when they finally get run over by cars. Silly birds....

Tea Time

While most folks I know drink coffee, I'm a big tea fan. My sister's been drinking it since she was five years old--piping hot, with lots of cream and sugar. People are often astonished by the wide variety of tea and ptisan in my cupboard. My favourites are cocoa spice, Earl Grey green, Angel's Dream, and Indian chai. Ginger tea is splendid for settling an upset stomach, and chamomile with honey for easing a sore throat.

Anyhow, all this musing about tea came about when I happened across a very old photograph of Japanese tea workers. Intrigued, I went on a tear and found the following images. )
