It's c-c-cold out, and I almost froze my forehead off on the walk to work. I guess I should've cabbed. That's how I'll get home. I'd rather not have to defrost my face.

My nose doesn't hurt from the needle-poking incident, but it does feel like it's holding a big, hard, sharp booger. It's distracting, but not painful. I can even bump my nose without it hurting. When my ears were done, if anything banged the lobes, it made me yell. I wonder why there's such a difference between the two, especially when I thought my nose would be the more sensitive....

[livejournal.com profile] f00dave thinks I should go and get it looked at, though. He thinks the post is slightly too short, and that the stud is being devoured by my nose. So I'll have to go and get that checked out.

I'm glad I brought my poi to work today, because the book I brought with me ended up being a rerun: Felix Cherniavsky's The Salome Dancer. Although I liked it, I don't like it enough to want to read it again. I'd started reading The Case of the Musical Cow, yesterday, but it was very uninteresting, and I gave up four chapters in. So now I'm a reader in search of a book. Good thing I have a vast selection of unread books at home, hmm?

When I get home, I'll take a poll over which one to read next.

Usually, I'll ask people if they're travelling on business, and they'll say no. Later, they get pissy when the rate I quote isn't their corporate rate (yes, I'm expected to be psychic). But sometimes the call goes like this:

Silly Customer (SC): Yes, I'd like to book a room at the government rate for June 10.

Me: Sure! That would be $95.

SC: Yes. I'd like that one.

Me: *Goes through booking* Ok, so you're booked at the government rate of $95, so to get that rate, you can just show a piece of ID that says you work with the government.

SC: What? But I don't work for the government.

Me: Didn't you request the government rate?

SC: Yes, but I don't work for the government.

Me: ... Well, in that case, your rate is $159.

And then there's this:

SC: I'd like to book a room for Friday and Saturday.

Me: This Friday and Saturday?

SC: (In a you're-dumb voice) No.

Me: Ok, which Friday and Saturday?

SC: August 10 and 11 in 2007.

Sheesh!

Here's what's handy and tempting me.

  1. Bad Girls of the Bible - Liz Curtis Higgs
  2. Hula - Lisa Shea
  3. King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table -Roger Lancelyn Green
  4. Treasure Box - Orson Scott Card
  5. Beholder's Eye - Julie E. Czerneda
  6. The Aeneid - Virgil
  7. Little, Big - John Crowley
  8. The Shipping News - E. Annie Proulx
  9. The Joy of Writing Sex: A Guide for Fiction Writers - Elizabeth Benedict
  10. Poisoned Embrace : A Brief History of Sexual Pessimism - Lawrence Osborne
  11. Walking on Glass - Iain Banks

So, what shall I read? Any suggestions from this list?

Edit: I'm going with The Aeneid....
