Naalbinding

So today is supposed to mark the biggest, giantest, most snowpocalyptic blizzard of forever and a half. I'm treating it like I normally do: ignoring it and going on with my daily life. Today I am off to teach a new session of belly dance at another community centre. I have a workout to do, and I have a client to train. I may even pick up a few groceries on the way back from teaching.

I will dress warmly, though. Three cheers for my hand-knit wool scarf, my winter boots, and my thrift shop-scored sheepskin coat!

When I get home, I have to do the dishes and maybe engage in some cookery. And then, if I have the wherewithal, I will attempt to teach myself some basic naalbinding. I'd like to make hats, mittens, and socks the Viking way. Look at some of the stuff made with this ancient technique:

And here's a tutorial:

And on that note, I'm off to teach my dance class. Toodlepip.

I showed up to meet my client, but she was not there. My co-worker experienced a no-show, as well. I'm guessing it's because of the about-to-happen snowstorm of dooooooom. I dunno. As a Maritimer, snow just doesn't scare me. The sky is still perfectly clear. I haven't seen a sign of a flake, though I won't be surprised if we do get dumped on overnight.

So anyhow, I was all set to go and pump some iron after my client. While I waited for her, I spun my poi for a bit, and that's when I realized that holy crap, I sure felt like shit. My arms felt weak, as though I'd just finished a big workout. But I hadn't. Yes, I'd spun poi earlier today. And taught a dance class. But I hadn't done anything which merited how tired and sore I feel. My back is really sore, too. I sure hope I'm not coming down with a flu or something. I have three classes to teach over the next two days, and I'm attending two dance workshops over Friday and Sunday. Ack!

Here's hoping that a nice, hot bath and another bowl of yummy soup will set me aright. I cooked up a pot of delicious curried shrimp and sweet potato soup, and I have applesauce on the make in the crock pot. My home smells delicious.

Even still, I managed to teach a dance class, do about an hour of poi practice, do 50 power jacks, a heap of dragons, two full pistol squats up and down from the floor, and several planks, so the day is not a bust, exercise-wise.

I was all gung-ho to try some naalbinding tonight, but now, I'm just too tired and sore. I think it will be a reading night. And so I'll break out the Rashomon and Seventeen Other Stories book tonight and continue with that.

Links? Ok.

Allergic to orgasms? Man's sad story has happy ending: Nice title....

Reverse internet billing decision, Liberals say: Internet is on the cusp of becoming prohibitively expensive in Canada. No more streaming shows, online gaming, or video conferencing without paying big moolah. Such a ridiculous, greedy cash grab. Grr!
