I suspect my site's server is dead. I'm homeless! Eeeee!

Does anyone know anywhere where I can host my sprawling, heavily-travelled page for free or trade or for really, really cheap?

It looks like the server wasn't actually dead. There were repairs going on with the communications lines, in California, that's all.

However, that doesn't change the fact that I still need to locate a new host for my pages.

...at f2o.org (http://www.f2o.org/). You'll want to look at their free plan, but be warned that they tend to scrutinize free accounts with a microscope.
If that doesn't help, talk to me; I'm thinking about moving my site, and might be able to help out.

What are they looking for when they scrutinize accounts? I do have a fair amount of "questionable" material on my site. It's not uncommon for me to discuss strange porn and erotica, for instance.

Exactly how much space does it take up? And how much traffic does it get? If I knew that, I might be able to hook you up with something. Also, think about the possibility of not hosting it all on one server.

As of today, my site is 139 Mb. I'm not sure on the exact traffic stats. However, the witch history site alone averages about 5 or 6 thousand hits per day.

Yup. And that's not even considering my forum, which grows a lot every day. I could always dump the forum somewhere else, I suppose.

But as for the rest of the site, I'm in a quandary.

I'm not sure if our packages would meet your needs in terms of bandwidth, but my husband and I run a web hosting company and our packages start at $10/month and go on up. We have a bit beefier allowances in space and bandwidth in our packages than many similarly structured ones out there.

Wish I knew; I didn't even get past the "describe your site in more detail, again" part when I tried to signup.
They should have a TOS (Terms of Service) that will tell you more, but it's hard for any free provider to allow sexual material, for the obvious reasons.

But yes, if you can't get a new host, I might be able to help.

What's the deal behind your site going down? Is your provider unable to deliver the necessary bandwidth, going out of business, etc?

Our 'provider' has been a ShanFan who's been hosting it on her personal ISDN line in California for three or so years now at no charge to us. She may have to move and give up her leased line. We're way too poor to afford professional hosting....
