shanmonster: (Dance Monkey Dance!)
Today's clip features a duet between a human and an equine: the dressage team of Andreas Helgstrand and Blue Hors Matine. And yes, I consider this dance. And likely so shall you.

I know nothing about horses and less about dressage, but this clip made my eyes tear and throat swell up. It was nothing short of amazing. Thank you so much for posting this one.

I have a friend who is a lover of and a scholar of Medieval dance. He found that there were numerous dance moves that were named and used in the dance manuals of the day without descriptions of what the moves were.

Then he found dressage manuals that named and described many, many moves in detail. Many of them had the same names as the moves in the dance manuals, and the descriptions were parallel. This led him to refer to dressage manuals when seeking descriptions of dance moves that were NOT described in the manuals.

He has re-created several dances from the period using this technique.

So, it appears that the parallels between dance and dressage are many hundreds of years old.

I have to say, that was the most exceptional dressage performance I've ever seen. That stuff is so hard to teach a horse... I can only imagine how long it took them to train him. Probably his entire 9 years. lol I wouldn't be surprised.
