Hello from a fellow geek in New Brunswick! I use Mozilla Thunderbird as an e-mail client. I have trained it to recognize my spam and non-spam and now it filters for me very nicely! I used to get like 10 spams per day, mostly pharmaceuticals and penis-enlargening thingies. Give it a try if you have a spam problem. :)

They're getting sneakier

It's a new type of spam, you've seen my complaints about the ones with my address in the subject line.

Basically, the newer spam filters(using Bayesian filtering, you can google it) "learn" by reading what you designate as spam and looking for patterns. By emailing bits of stories, the spammers are trying to fuck up that filter by feeding it "normal" stuff to increase the chances of false spam alerts. And then you'll get frustrated with the filter when it starts trashing emails from mom and turn it off.

At least that's what I think their intention is.

I run a spam filter, already. I used to get between 50-70 spams per day. Now I'm down to about two or three, and the ones that get through seem to be quite creative.

I don't mind some of the spam I've been getting, lately. They are often much more creative and entertaining than the emails I receive from web fans and web enemies! Check out this one. It's particularly amusing:
