Is there a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner anywhere in your area?
Obviously the local western doctors are quacks and havent done anything sensible yet, but maybe the eastern ones have a clue about whats going on. If you look at it traditionally, their medicine is a couple millenia older than ours (assuming ours started sometime around the time of antibiotics, since we seem to have started over from scratch around then), so they may have some idea how to fix whatever it is.
Itll be something wierd like 'you have damp wind in your kidneys' or the like, but maybe the solution will work. At the very least it probably wont f*ck you up like the crazy drugs do. I dont know what costs are like though, but it cant hurt to find out.
There are other alternative treatments that may work nicely too, like acupuncture, or Bowen therapy (http://www.bowtech.com). I have tried both with some success. I dont think there is a Bowen therapist anywhere closer than Sackville though, and thats a bit of a drive for you so that might not be an option. (they have a current worldwide listing of therapists on their site) I think TCM may be your best bet though.
Either way, you've tried the 'normal' treatments, so now maybe its time to try the alternatives. What have you got to lose?
