Ok, here are the promised pictures. There's no particular theme apart from the age of the images.
Vikina (AKA Bubbles Darlene, Sheri Darlene, or her real name: Virginia Lachinia), the mostly-nekkid weirdo stripper. She also danced the mambo which isn't a terribly Norse thing to do. I think this photo dates from the 1950s. Alas, she wasn't actually a Viking. She was American.
This is Doris. I don't know her last name. I do know, however, that she was a model, ballerina, an actress, and a circus performer (along with a horse named Ace), and lived in Hollywood during the 1920s and 1930s. The photo was obtained by a collecter when Doris was taken to a rest home. I always find it sad when such personal belongings are dissipated in this manner.
I suppose this is a picture of two naked dancers, but they really don't look like they're dancing. Instead, they're standing listlessly, anxiously awaiting the moment they can put some clothes on and go for a coffee break. The photo was taken around 1910, and I have no idea who the models or photographer are.
This is a crazy posed photo with a naked lady about to stab a swooping seagull to death. Unfortunately, because this photo was soooo staged, there's absolutely no movement to the piece. It looks more like a diorama, and I think that's why it appeals to me. It's so bad, it's great! This picture dates from 1910.
A bookplate depicting a little lady and a very phallic snail, by Franz Von Bayros (1866-1924). Von Bayros' naughty artwork landed him in a lot of trouble with the law, and he was exiled from Germany.
This is a photograph of a drag king of the 1880s. The picture was taken by Davis of Gardiner, ME.
A piratey photo of several young men dating from the 1910s. I think they're kinda cute!
A very cool photograph of 93-year-old Mrs. Edn. Sherow. The photo was taken on August 10, 1913. I love the lighting on her face, and I also love her loopy shawl.
These are the absolute poofiest, puffiest sleeves I've ever seen on a dress. The photograph dates from the 1890s.
