shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)

Yesterday's photoshoot went splendidly. The photographer, who goes by the moniker MEK, had me all dolled-up in a similar style as Da Vinci's portrait of Cecilia Gallarani. My hair often pretends I'm grasping onto a Van de Graaff generator, so it took an almost unbelievable quantity of gel to make my hair stay sleek and smooth against my cheek. I wore my big black gown with a black velvet bustier. I also wore blue Christmas garland in lieu of jet beads, and a piece of purple satin ribbon as a circlet. From the back, I looked like hell. Elastics held the garland in place, loops of ribbon were draped everywhere, and an extraneous bit of hair was wrapped around the whole mess. But from the angle MEK chose, I looked the perfect Renaissance lady.

I can't wait until I get some of the photos. If the photos turned out exactly like she likes, MEK will be using it as her central graduation piece. I think that's pretty awesome!

I'll be leaving for the gym, shortly. It shall soon be time to pump some more iron. Then, I'll be back to work doing jewellery design for a competition/assignment. And then, I have another dance performance this evening, this time for a birthday party in someone's home. I think that after this, I will be charging more money for my performances. I've been charging the same amount since I've started dancing, and my rates are definitely on the low end of the spectrum....

Jesus, that's a gorgeous dress. I wish I were that sort of goth.

Wait, nobody's that sort of goth. :)

As you put it in the post that finally made me add you, "Bitch please, the scene hates the scene."

Hee hee! The dress was actually very simple to make. It just uses a lot of fabric.

Still, my opportunities to dress in such a manner lessen every day. Although I used to wear ostentatious garb on a regular basis once upon a time, it's just not wise to wear long, draping sleeves in the metal studio or to the gym.

Yep, in the metals studio that dress would be a conflagration waiting to happen!

What competition are you doing? What are you making for it? Don't answer if you'd rather not, but I love hearing about other people's work...

I forgot the contest information at school, and I can't remember the name of it. Basically, there are two categories, though: professional and student. I'm obviously in the latter. The students do up renderings of jewellery design (drawn, painted, or on a computer) and matte it. The professionals make an actual piece. There are special prizes for designs incorporating platinum, Czech crystals, and some other gemstone (maybe diamond; I don't recall).

When my design is complete, I'll scan it and post it. It's a simple design using tubing and wire with facetted sapphires. I'm drawing a ring, earrings, and a pendant. I don't expect to place. I'm just doing this for the practice of it.

I do wish I could get the gold and sapphires to actually make the design, though!

I've already made the ring with pink cubic zirconia and silver, and I really like it.
