My visit to the gym went very well. I upped a bunch of my weights, and I should be upping even more the next time I go. I like seeing progress.
And speaking of progress, the jewellery design work continues. I needed to find a neutral human template to draw my ring, earring, and pendant on, but wasn't having any luck. So I had f00 take a very boring picture of me with the QuickCam. I managed to do a decent enough drawing based on that. Now, I just have to translate it onto a larger medium, and then render and paint all the jewellery. Arr!
In my fruitless online search for jewellery rendering examples, I did manage to find a couple of interesting things:
- Nick Cartier Henna Portfolio: Designs from Tuareg and Bokhari jewellery.
- Keith Lewis - From Propagandist to Humanist: I'm especially fond of his Hard-On ring (which I saw in a recent edition of Metalsmith). I like jewellery with movement, and I also get a kick out of overt themes.
This summer, I plan on being part of a craft/art cooperative. So far, there are four of us who are determined to make this work. We need two more students from the Craft School to make it a go. It would be nice to have someone from fashion, surface design, or graphics to make the group a bit more diverse. So far, we have photography, pottery, jewellery, and weaving covered (although each of us work in other areas, as well). If you attend the Craft School and are interested in gambling at self-employment this summer, let me know! We need artisans to share shifts and give workshops at Rising Artisans.

No, not for any of my jewellery. Sigh....
But I'm modelling a piece made by one of my instructors: Patrick Perry. It's a cast lead apple hanging from an enormous chain. It's part of a series on bad girls of the Bible, and I got to be Eve. Hoorah!
Patrick is a really great instructor, by the way, and a super-nice guy. I think he's getting several pieces put in an upcoming book called 500 Rings (by Lark Books). He was shortlisted for the cover, but didn't quite make it. D'oh! Anyhow, I'm really lucky to have him as a teacher.
