It was a long day--a day filled with frustration, curse words, and almost even tears. It was a day of sore fingers, pliers, needles, leather dust, nail polish, Krazy glue, metal, shoe polish, tiny glass beads, and a possessed sewing machine.

In other words, today was the day I finished my metals project.

Wanna see it? Here's the front view, and here's a close-up of the metal bits. As usual, my QuickCam sucks, so you'll just have to take my word that the whole shebang looks much better in person.

is that a leather cord you're using? it seems kinda stiff, and it doesn't take the curves very well.. the metalwork is absolutely beautiful, but i think you should change the cord to something that'll be tighter-looking instead of loose, if you know what i mean? :)

Yup, that's suede cord. I see what you mean about the stiffness, but it was the best leather cord I could find in town. The project is due in seven hours, so I don't think I'll be able to find anything better in the meantime. Heh... Still, I'm willing to bet the cord will meliorate with use.

The colours in the picture really don't do justice to the metals used.

I painted the rivets, as well. I could only find steel rivets, and they were too cold-looking in comparison to the copper and bronze, so I painted them with two colours of nail polish (platinum chrome and an overcoat of black gold). Then, I Krazy glued a gold glass seed bead in the hole of each rivet. The beads are a really close match to the bronze.

a metal shirt!

How much does that way? What kind of metal did you use? That is AWESOME! You should do an entire outfit like that (me talking with no knowledge of how much time or effort that would take ... )

;)

It's not that heavy, really. Not much heavier than a comparable leather bustier without the metal. It took me about a month to make (including several 10-hour days). The metalwork was the most time-consuming, although the leatherwork was the most swear-inducing.

I checked out the award you told me about, but the deadline was February. Poop.

Thanks, anyhow, though!

The metals are: bronze/brass rectangles, copper rings, and steel pop rivets.
