I am now the proud owner of a Jubjub Bird. That's what I've named the plastic owl effigy which now dangles from the balcony ceiling. I've yet to determine whether or not it is effective in scaring off my disowned pigeon family. I frightened them away when I took Jubjub Bird out, and they haven't returned. But that doesn't necessarily mean a thing. I guess I'll find out how well my plastic birdy is working within the next day or so.

I'm getting a sudden, horrific and wonderful feeling that the blue guys in For The Birds were based on that photograph.

Heh, we tried this in my building a few years age. It worked. Until the pigeons figured out the owl was fake & started treating it like any other statue (perch 'n' poop, the pigeon manifesto).

Just be sure to move Jubjub from time to time to keep the invaders off balance.

That's why he's hanging from a string (properly: bootlace). The wind should keep him moving a little, and we can always chuck him around the balcony, if need be.

I suspect that once they nest elsewhere, the birds won't come back anyway. But maybe not.
