shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)
Yes, it's another silly meme-thing, but this one appeals to my sense of literary absurdism.

1. Take five books off your bookshelf.
2. Book #1 -- first sentence
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph.

1. Michael Patrick Hearne - The Victorian Fairy Tale Book
2. Neil Gaiman - American Gods
3. Lujo Bassermann - The Oldest Profession: A History of Prostitution
4. Ursula K. LeGuin - City of Illusions
5. Gabriel Garcia Marquez - One Hundred Years of Solitude

The iron bars are up for life. Shadow had done three years in prison. Having fought against Antichrist in Syria and Palestine, he determined to do so also on the banks of the Seine and never to tolerate in his native land what he had not been able to deny his soldiers. He did not turn to look at the stranger, but laid his firewood methodically. "They're as well armed as we are," General Moncada sighed, "but besides that they're fighting because they want to."

I think I might be afraid of you and your psychotic literature. I wonder if I can use this as some form of divination. We can be the next mrs cleo.

I don't think any of the books I used are particularly psychotic. Maybe next time I'll break out the Brett Easton Ellis, instead.

I've only actually read American Gods from the pile. The rest sit in my slowly-dwindling to-be-read stack. I'm still working on Juvenal's Sixteen Satires, though. I need to pick up my reading pace. Now that school's almost out, I should have more time. I know I'll be able to read at my summer job, for that matter.
