Today was to have been my last day of classes, but it was cut short due to some awful news. Not too long ago, there was a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia. It was an inside job, and I think several people were murdered by coworkers. A couple of people survived: an American who managed to jump out of a window in time to avoid being shot, and Trudy's (my jewellery teacher's) brother-in-law. The latter was shot in the head and neck, paralyzing him. For the past week, it looked like there was an extremely slim chance he may pull through.
The media has been printing misinformation at a steady rate, saying he'd been shot in the shoulder, and that he was recovering from his paralysis.
While I was at Trudy's studio, she received a terrible phone call. Apparently, doctors in Saudi Arabia had missed a bullet in his head while operating on him, and he was flown out of the country. With the changes in pressure from flying and the stress of moving, it became impossible to remove the bullet without killing him instantly. He developed a steadily-escalating fever and hemorrhaging which have left him brain dead.
Trudy is the family member who seems to be doing most of the home and press management. She's been fielding the very intrusive media calls (the press call at all hours of the day and night) as well as taking care of domestic duties for her mother- and father-in-law while they've been at her brother-in-law's side. I feel really badly for her, and hope things can settle down for her soon.
