I showed up at work this afternoon, not because I had to, but just in case one of my employees needed someone to cover for her during a workshop. However, no one showed up for the workshop, so I was free to go. I chose to stay, though, and got most of the work done on a new choli. This one is really pretty. I think it will be the nicest one I've made yet. The body is made from embroidered bright red velvet, and the sleeves and straps are black with red overstitching. I think I may put black trim on the body of the top, just to finish the look off a bit more.
My thumb is aching again, but not as badly as it did yesterday. Still, the pain is worrisome. I practiced a bit with my staff today, and although I was still nimble enough to wield it properly, it did make me wince on numerous occasions. That's why I put the staff aside. Ouchies.
The weather is perfect for kayaking right now, but I don't think my thumb would let me paddle for very long.
When I got to work, there were people waiting for me. One was a woman who saw me dance last week, and she'd brought her young son in the hopes I'd be dancing again. That's when I practiced with the staff, instead. They seemed perfectly content to watch me do that. And there was also a French girl in town on an English language immersion programme. She wants to interview me and attend one of my dance classes next week. Sounds fine to me!
I stopped by the grocery store on the way home and bought some tasty food: English cucumber, cherries, strawberries, dill havarti, sirloin steak, and chicken legs. I've been doing a whole lot of barbecuing lately. I love the taste of food cooked that way, it dirties fewer dishes, and it doesn't overheat the house on a hot day. What's not to like, aside from the occasional flaming ponytail?
I also stopped by Cultures on the way home and chatted with Brett, one of the guys who works there. I saw a gong for sale, and it reminded me of my megalomaniacal dream that every time I walk into a room full of people, that someone should strike a gong. I deserve dramatic entrances, whether I'm strutting it up in silks and jewels or stumbling around in a dirty bathrobe, wiping sleep from my eyes.
