My mind is sore, but my hand is much less so, and this despite taking several kicks directly to the sore part! Yeah, I just got back from kung fu, where we worked on advancing crescent kicks, double front kicks, side kicks, roundhouse kicks, tornado kicks, and combinations of each. And since we were working with partners, that meant we took turns being each other's punching bags. My tornado kicks are more like dust devil kicks. They're puny and tip all over the place. I need sooo much practice with them. My other kicks rock the casbah, though. Hurrah for speed, power, and flexibility!
We worked more on the tiger snake form, and I think I can muddle my way through the whole thing now, although my last four or five moves are pretty laughable. I think I'm still making shit up near the end, and that just won't do. I'm not nearly advanced enough to think about creating my own style. Heh.... We also started dragon form tonight, just to ensure my brain is overflowing with possibility. The tornado kick is about four moves into the form, so I get pretty stuck right there. I don't want to advance until the movements make sense to me, but the sensei likes to make me rush. I guess I just need to practice more while I'm at work. So that's what I intend on doing tomorrow afternoon.
Tomorrow night is the first night of a new section of dance classes. I'll be teaching mixed levels Middle Eastern dance technique. Classes are at the Monsignor Boyd Family Centre opposite the SMT Bus Terminal on Regent Street in Fredericton, NB. They start at 6:30 and run for an hour. I devote 7:30-8:00 to my more advanced students, working on whatever they want to work on. Classes are $60 for six weeks, or $12 per class. Drop-ins are welcome! Won't you come and join us?
