shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)
I appear to have a pulled muscle in my back. It's not an auspicious way to begin a day of dance. So I'm afraid I'm going to have to skip out on dancing by the Farmers' Market this morning (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn!). I have to spare what mobility I have for this afternoon's dance class. I'm currently hopped up on Advil, but I still feel the twinges in my back every now and then. Ouch, ouch, ouch.

I think I must've done this to myself in my graceless attempts in kung fu on Thursday during that tricky section of Sup Bat Sou.

How many people will be in my intermediate dance class, this afternoon? I guess I'll find out soon enough.

That's ok. :) Did you and Dave want to just go to the market instead? I want to see if I can get some of those pretty thistle-ball thingies.

Woah! Maybe you could wear something like this for the Morroco workshop: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80916&item=5519288288&rd=1

Yikes!
find an over the counter with the generic name ketoprofen (marketed in the U.S. as Orudis or Actron) ... it's Ibuprofen on steroids, and I have found it better for my joints than even Celebrex or Vioxx which my doc wanted me to try.
Hrm, we're as near "drug free" as anyone I've met (we might consume a 20-capsule bottle of Advil between us over the course of a year, and she takes Midol now and then), so I doubt she's tried that yet. Moreover, I doubt she'll try it, in any case. But if it works, and it's not "just another painkiller", then it just might be worth it....
Well, it's in the same drug family as ibuprofen, so it's got the exact same risks/benefits... it's an EXCELLENT anti-inflammatory. Obviously it won't work for everyone, but I have a pretty badly damaged knee and for me, it works better than any of the prescription anti-inflammatories they've put me on, so I'm personally sold on it. I also take a LOT less when I'm on it, because it seems to relieve the symptoms a lot longer than Advil.

I usually mention it when someone I know has an injury, because I've had such great results with it. :-) YMMV, of course. ;-)
My joints are fine. It's just a sore muscle. I'm sure it will be all better in another day or two, as long as I don't yank it out again. But if my toe gets psycho on me, I may look this ketopoop up!

Those Thermacare air-activated heat wraps? The wrap-around one with velcro closures is a gift from the dance gods. For our last show I was nearly immobile; I wore one all day and by showtime I was pain-free.
