shanmonster: (Default)

I just found out second-hand that I didn't get the scholarship to the Morocco/Tarik workshop this month. This is a real pisser, because it means I have to pay for it with my already stressed-out credit card. All I can do now is hope I sell lots and lots of stuff at the workshop.

[livejournal.com profile] f00dave has also reminded me that I really need to concentrate more on my writing. My writing for money, that is. So I need to really finish writing those specialized dance costuming books I've been procrastinating over for the last few years. It's about time I did my tribal costuming book, my book on skirts, my book on tops, and my booklet on no-sew techniques. And then there's that chapbook I mentioned a couple of years ago. I need to get a wiggle on. Like f00 said, just an hour a day will go a long way....

I haven't had anything listed online yet, but I should do so. That should be my other timesink: making an online store. I have a lot of dance-related merchandise.

Yeah, an online store would be way cool!

(Grantde I have no idea what kind of work that would be. But it'd still be cool.)

It would be a LOT of work.

Yes, but it would be COOL. Don't you want to be COOL? :)

She sells her dance costuming book to USAians (and some Canadians and others, too, but mostly Americans). She claimed that her dance costumes/belts/etcetera won't sell 'cause she'd be easily undercut by other dealers. Same with her jewelry (she puts in quality that the cheapo's don't, but the market can't tell that, generally). And other reasons, too (i.e. you can't mail jewelry, etc.). It's a mess. A MESS!

For whatever bizarre reason, it is actually illegal in Canada to mail jewellery. Of course, this doesn't stop it from happening. Perhaps if I labelled it as costume jewellery, it would be fine to ship.

If you want to "get the f00", you just have to ask. Duh. ;-)

No, there's some law forbidding the exchange of finished jewelry through the mail. I don't know the details, however.

There might be a Dave and Shan's Comic Book Collection sale on eBay, but that's about it.

Uh, not yet. I have 5 long boxes and one half box, mostly filled with a mix of poop, Vertigo stuff, and a few good series (Shade, Preacher, lots of Sandman, starting about 20 issues in, etc). We'll announce on LJ when it's catalogued and/or posted on eBay, no worries. WE'RE MONEY-GRUBBERS TOO! =)

*Eyes widen brightly*

Coooooomiiiiiiiiics....

Mind you, I have all of the Preacher and Sandman series in trade paperback form.

But I'm not sure if I'd want to pay money to have comic boxes filled with human excrament.

Oh...you didn't mean poop literally? =)

We were collecting pretty much all the Vertigo stuff, along with anything Gaiman was involved in, and a few oddball series here and there. Shan was into Strangers In Paradise, for instance. I'll catalogue it and post it someday soon.

And no, not literal poop, though a few things in there sure remind me of it! I mean, W.I.L.D.C.A.T.S. #1? What the FUCK was I thinking?!?!?

What INDEED, mister Foo. Why in the blue hell would you buy Image stuff outside of maybe Savage Dragon and Invincible!?

And I admit, Vertigo almost always has top notch stuff. Even the stuff they put out today is awesome like 100 Bullets, Fables and Y: The Last Man.

Do you still collect any? I remember Shan saying she doesn't anymore, but I thought I'd ask. =)

Speculation? Stupidity? Dunno. I'm not the moron I used to be; I'm an altogether *new* kind of moron!

Nope, we're out of it, now. I'd rather have some cash and the space back, really. *shrug*

You are the reincarnation of Dr. Seuss. You just don't know it yet.

A friend of mine gave me a link to a Novel Writing website last night. It's one of those "contests" where you have to write 50,000 words within a month or something like that.

I'm at school right now, but I'll post the link on here when I get home.

I think I'll go for it! Now, let's see if I can stick with it....

I'm sorry you didn't get your scholarship! You seem to be such a well-rounded person, thbough, that you could probably write many books on many different subjects.

Date: 2004-10-05 02:21 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com
Thanks! I could theoretically write books on different topics. The problem is, my attention span does its best to stop me.

no sew technique?
