shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)
I've been running around like a dancer with her bra cut off trying to get ready for the weekend. I juryrigged a costume for tomorrow night's performance. It's definitely different for around these parts, but probably not so very unique for the West Coast of the US. I even found a way to draw the eye to my abdominal movements. Hopefully, someone will take some good pictures.

Here's a quick description of the outfit: black fishnet croptop with full-length sleeves/gauntlets (yeah, it's a pair of pantyhose with my hands jammed through), penny-covered bra, tribal belt, bullet belt, black panel skirt, gold/black pants slit all the way up the length of the legs, and black and silver necklaces galore. I have faux henna tattoos on my abs and obliques. My hair will be up in a crazy updo courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn. It's not exactly a tribal look, and it certainly isn't cabaret. I'll be wielding my sword in a very different way from what I've seen in dance performance. I'm dragging my kung fu into this performance. I don't know what the hell I'm doing, but I think it looks pretty funky.

I'm being introduced as a fusion dancer, but I still expect the purists will have tizzy fits. I guess we shall see what Morocco thinks of it. I know that at the last workshop I attended with her, she made comments about dancers who used poor technique in their performance the night before. My technique should be fine--just very different.

I can't believe how much stuff I have to sell. I filled four suitcases already, and that's not including the tablecloths and fixtures. I hope I remembered everything!

Please provide us pictures! (Although I/m mostly studying Egyptian-style with one of Morocco's old students, I seem to lean toward a tribal & fusion styles... must be my love of folk and modern slipping in).

Have fun, good luck, whoo hoo!

I'm not attending, so pictures have to come from other sources. They don't usually have a professional or pro-amature there, though, so odds on getting good snaps aren't so great.

Oh! Well, if it helps, I was thinking mostly about costuming and stuff for sale, of which I hope there is now Very Little (since the weekend's over...) Oh well!

A bit late, but much luck nonetheless. Oh, and please post what Morocco thought of your outfit and performance.

Morocco and Tarik didn't really say anything about any of the performances. The only thing Morocco said was that she saw all of the performances, and saw a lot of really talented dancers. Very politic, hmm?
