This morning I met with a wood carver looking for a model for a new project. I seem to fit his physical requirements, so it looks like I'll be posing for a lifesize carving. That's good news. It means a bit of money for me.

I also stopped by the Craft School and got some bad news. It seems studio space is now an impossibility for me. I won't be able to do any more stone setting, casting, or soldering. This really sucks. I'm now only able to do wire work, which is awfully limiting. I have all sorts of facetted stones and cabochons which I can no longer do anything with, and this is very disappointing. Unless, that is, you know of anyone in the downtown Fredericton area who has a metal studio they would rent out at an affordable rate. No? I didn't think so.

In other news, I dreamed I was hauling strands of frog eggs from my coochie, only instead of eggs within the gelatinous strings, I found beans, some of which were sprouting. Freud would have loved this one.

And now for a few links before I get back to the daily grind:

Breakdance Competition Video: I love watching this stuff. I'm particularly impressed with the one-armed inverted spins. These guys are strong, flexible, nice to look at, and very skilled (thanks, Kutulu).

Zaki tries the whole "drabble" thing: Because Farscape deserves parodied slash fiction.

Reek rises as gals stick with stinky panties: Remember this story? I think I linked to it three years ago.

The Top 20 Biggest Pimps Ever: I'm not sure I agree, but I was entertained, nonetheless.

The Ten Geekiest Hobbies: "We’ve contacted renowned experts on geeks, as well as many actual geeks, to compile this list of the dorkiest things you can do with your time. Each activity will be ranked on both how badly it humiliates the participant and how negatively it affects his or her sex life. These are not rough estimates. These are scientific facts based on the research done by captive supergeniuses working in controlled conditions with test mice and test mice dressed like tiny wizards" (thanks, Dude).

The History of the Fashionable Bathing Suit: "It was in the early 1800's that people began to flock to the beaches for seaside amusement. With the introduction of railroads, oceanside beaches became even more popular for sunny recreations. Along with this new outdoor pastime came the need for a stylish garment for the privileged lady of fashion."

Morbid Tendencies: "I make art out of dead animals and other nice things. YOU buy the art, then I take the money and go buy gin." I really like her idea for Dead Gardens. It sounds like fun! I think freakwoman and longpig will especially get a kick out of this.

Super Mario Bros. Icecapades: Some things should not exist.

William Shakespeare Rubber Ducky: Wha?

Alleged mercury bandits not too swift: "Police said the suspects admitted to playing with the mercury, which forms small beads when released in liquid form. One of the suspects told a TV news crew that one of the four had dipped a cigarette into the mercury." Hoorah for superior intelligence!

Galumphia Adult: More worksafe pornography.

Eeek!: I'm sure she'd look beautiful in some other costume. This one is terrifying!

Allerca: Hypoallergenic Franken-kitties. Wait a minute. Aren't Siamese and Cornish Rex kitties already pretty much fine for people with cat allergies?

School Says Halloween Disrespectful to Witches: "Witches with pointy noses and things like that are not respective symbols of the Wiccan religion and so we want to be respectful of that" (thanks, Neil Gaiman).

A basic torch setup isn't all that expensive- you can p[robably do a Little Torch will all you need for $300 or so (propane/oxygen or acetylene/oxygen). Propane isn't safe to store indoors, though. And you do need ventilation- could you set up in a bathroom?

Casting, however, is expensive and big. have you looked into either PMC or Art Clay, or else doing the waxes and sending them out for casting?

At this point, $300 is about as feasible as $30000. The casting I'd be doing wouldn't be so large scale. I'm more interested in cuttlefish casting and water casting, so I wouldn't need a big setup.

Some day, I'll get back into it, but it looks like it will be a long while before that comes to pass. Meh.

I find a disposable propane tank with a torch attachment (<$20) works for all of my casting needs, and if done in a none-windy place can also be (carefully) used for simple soldering. I use a piece of lumber for my crucible and bricks for a soldering surface.

Did you see that video with the break-
dancing goths that I think is done by
Skinny Puppy?

No. I think the most recent Puppy video I've seen was for "Testure." Sounds nifty, though!
