And now for one more post before I run off to do more chores. Here's what the Wacky Wiccans have posted in my guestbook. They keep me very entertained.

Collera sends me some handy information:

I am a witch. I know alot of spells in latin that... some that can cuase people pain... but i hardly use them. I dont think its right to place bad spells on people...here's one i use sometimes... but it's not physical pain...Stasera, abbia un sogno dell'amici danneggiati... i like your site.

Raven, who "wan to see how many people hate witche," says, "I am a witch. This site is dumb. You freak!" Someone anonymous writes, "this makes me sick to read about the horrible things that people have done to women and all of you freaks that think that this is cool should see a shrink and go to catholic school!!!!!!!!" Wow. That's a whole lot of exclamation points. I better get me to a Catholic school, pronto.

And then I have a confusing letter regarding gothicism from "seasons":

my opinion is the true gothic is not a way for teens to be cool.the gothic have a great philosophy and have very much connections with the romanticism.the gothic it is not a religion it is a way to understand the world in other image what is presented by massmedia.the beginning of gothic was the dark romanticism not the satanism.some stupid people make gothic simmilary with the satanism but this is not true.the gothic should be romantic not satanist.the satanism is an idiot religion and the true gothic don't have connections with the satanism.the gothic-romanticism is something more profound like the religion and like the idiot teens "cool"attitude

Dude. Howcum I don't get fun stuff like this? (Oh, yeah. Because I didn't create THE kickass informational site on witch trials. Would have saved me an assload of gathering dramaturg materials if I'd found it before I directed The Crucible about 8 years back, lemme tell ya.)

I do really wish people holding (or pretending to) deranged opinions would express them in decent English. Bad grammar and spelling can be entertaining on their own, but when the content is so much more entertaining, it's really unnecessary.

I think that last one might at least have the excuse of not being a native speaker -- all those extra thes are a red flag in that regard.

I've noted a high correlation between bad grammar/spelling and deranged opinions. I have a few conjectures as to why this may be, but I'm sure you can come up with your own.

It's not restricted to Wiccans, Christians, or any group at all. Sturgeon's Law applies to all groups, equally: "90% of everything is crud".

I tell my Christian friends not to be embarrassed by the freaky fundies, just make it clear that they're not responsible for them. I figure we shoul do the same. (Not that it's always easy. *wry g* But still something to keep in mind.)

I know plenty of Wiccans who are just ducky. I also know some fine Christians. Unfortunately, the Wacky Wiccans and Kooky Christians appear to be very vocal, and may also make up a majority. That's just plain scary.

I actually parsed all three excerpts with minimal difficulty. Which frightens me somewhat.

Possibly it's because they're more intelligible than some of what I'm called upon to turn into business letters all day... :: shudder ::
