As of Sunday, I finally succumbed to the call centre plague. Shortly after I woke up, I rushed into the bathroom, which was occupied by a make-up applying bellydancer, shouting, "I'm gonna HURL!!!"

I've never seen a dancer move so quickly.

And so I heaved like a cat divesting itself of a massive hairball, and then I stared at my undigested breakfast while contemplating whether or not to heave again. Fortunately, I didn't need to again. Unfortunately, the reason was because the flu decided to evict itself explosively out the other end off and on for the rest of the day. Yeurgh. This is not the best way to comport oneself at a dance workshop.

Now, the plague has settled itself down to a plain ol' garden variety headcold. Here's hoping I can last the day.

First of all, here's an excerpt from the book I'm reading: Charles Mackay's Extraordinary Popular Delusions & the Madness of Crowds.

In reference to the alchemist Albertus Magnus,

"For the first thirty years of his life he appeared remarkably dull and stupid, and it was feared by every one that no good could come of him. He entered a Dominican monastery at an early age; but made so little progress in his studies, that he was more than once upon the point of abandoning them in despair, but he was endowed with extraordinary perseverance. As he advanced to middle age, his mind expanded, and he learned whatever he applied himself to with extreme facility. So remarkable a change was not in that age to be accounted for but by a miracle. It was asserted and believed that the Holy Virgin, touched with his great desire to become learned and famous, took pity upon his incapacity, and appeared to him in the cloister where he sat almost despairing, and asked him whether he wished to excel in philosophy or divinity. He chose philosophy, to the chagrin of teh Virgin, who reproached him in mild and sorrorful accents that he had not made a better choice. She, however, granted his request, that he should become the most excellent philosopher of the age."

So maybe, with the help of divine intervention, I can become a righteous choreographer. Now, where's that Virgin when I need her?

And now for a meme....

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.

I'm home. Work didn't kill me.

So in celebration, here's a link dump. Enjoy! )
