Cat and Bird
Feb. 16th, 2006 09:09 amI'm a cat. No, not a furry. And I don't think I'm a real cat in a human body. It's just that I figure I'm catlike in my behaviour, albeit a prickly, uncuddly, yowling Siamese cat.
I'm mostly lazy, with intense bursts of energy. I have the compulsion to chase things whiffled in front of me. I torment my prey. I pounce on people. I sleep in bizarre, uncomfortable-looking positions. When surprised, I jump and scratch with claws extended. I prefer to spend most of my time on my own. In a real fight (not sparring), I bite, kick, and claw (although I haven't had to fight since high school).
So how come I'd consider my totem animal to be the chicken? Maybe I'd better revise that notion.
Chickens aren't lazy. They're always on the go. They're highly social animals. They spend all their time looking for pebbles or things to eat. They'll eat almost anything, including one another. Almost everything is ruled by fight or flight; they either run terrified, or puff themselves up and charge violently. There's just no indifference in the face of a possible enemy. They like to physically attack weaker or uglier chickens.
I don't think I have much in common with chickens. But they sure are fun to watch!
