Gym 'n Knee Crick It
Jun. 7th, 2011 09:01 pmSince the outdoor bootcamp classes have started, attendance for my indoor bootcamp classes has vanished. Kaput. So as of today, I've decided to go do my own workout, once no one shows up. Tonight was my first time doing weight training since (gulp!) the end of March.
I have mixed feelings about my results this evening.
+ve:
- My lungs seem to be recovered. I was able to do interval running for 10 minutes on the treadmill. I broke a sweat, but my breathing wasn't laboured.
- I was able to do 25 power jumping jacks in a row.
- Despite not doing weight training in ages, my biceps and chest have lost no strength at all.
- Back extensions were no harder than before
-ve:
- My shoulders are weaker, and I had to lower the weights for the shoulder press
- My right knee said "NO!" when I tried to do squats. Ok, then. This may just need a bit of time. I noticed it twinging on me a month ago when I had to climb multiple flights of stairs for my dance training.
- Here's the worst: When I did one set of deadlifts, my SI joint twinged a little bit. It hasn't bothered me in months. I am pretty sure the deadlifts have been triggering that issue. Though I love doing deadlifts, I cannot function as a dancer with that back injury. So I guess I have to quit doing deadlifts. In order not to exacerbate my back further, I skipped out on the bentover row tonight. I need to find a replacement for the deadlifts. Maybe back extensions plus lat pulldowns? Any suggestions?
I am feeling more shagged out than when I did regular weight training, but that's to be expected, considering I'm just recovering from being sick. Plus, it is bee-killing season. I am glad that my strength doesn't appear to have depreciated, over all. I guess all the dancing, cycling, and walking I've been doing has been keeping me in fine fettle.
Out of curiosity, I weighed myself for the first time since March. I'm the same weight as before.
