Once upon a time, I used to have an excellent collection of boots. Now, I'm down to just one funky pair I can wear, and it's the wrong season for that. So I'm going to fill my page with boot love. I want these boots. I'm drooling on my keyboard. Want!

[livejournal.com profile] collapseylamb has these Lucky Stud boots. I'm jealous.

What's she got that I don't got?

Right. She's got the boots.

[Lucky Stud]

And then there's these ones, which I've mentioned before: the John Fluevog Lover.

[Lover]

I'd also like to have a pair of boots that just scream out that Roseanne Cash song. If these boots aren't made for walking all over you, then I don't know what ones are: T.U.K. Combat Troopers.

[Combat Trooper]

I'm in lust.

What size do you wear?
I have a pair of the Fluevog Lovers in 10.5 (black, of course) that need a new home as I can't wear them.

Whoa! I wear about a 9 or a 10 for most shoes, but with boots, it's really hard to say. Do they run smallish?

Date: 2005-01-19 02:48 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] roisnoir.livejournal.com
Supposedly they run small, but I usually wear a 10, and they're too big for me.

Date: 2005-01-19 02:51 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com
Well, I'd be willing to give 'em a go. How much are you asking for them?

Date: 2005-01-19 02:53 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] roisnoir.livejournal.com
I was thinking about $140 or so - it'll make buying that pair of New Rocks I've been eyeing less painful.

I'll have to hold off for a while. I still haven't even received my first paycheque, and I've got lots of bills! But thanks for the offer, though!

No problem - I figure I'll probably hold on to them until they're completely unavailble and then put them on ebay.

You deserve boots. My Angels are the style that was out right before the Fluevog Lucky Studs. Here's the best I could do with a camshot of black boots in an ill-lit room at night:

These are the boots that will make it possible for me to wear skirts.

You know you're goth when... et cetera, et cetera.

A friend of mine had the Lovers boots and I was seriously jealous.

And ye Gods, the T.U.K.s are walking boots, to be sure. I look at those and I swear my toes begin to cry. I've never had a good relationship with shoes and the wearing thereof (blisters, squished toes, general unhappiness), so I'm kind of stunned that I've now been wearing the 'vogs for two hours without going insane and whipping them off. That's a record. Seriously.

I find boots much more comfortable than shoes. I'd wear them in my sleep if f00 would let me. Hee!

If nothing else makes me goth as fuck, my boot love does.

Mmm, strappy boots.

Tanker boots shouldn't have laces at all, though.

I always heard that in a tank your boots would get coated with oil and grease, making laces impossible to untie. So they developed boots with straps instead.

Well, I was told a while back that laces could get caught in gears or something, but the consensus on the web seems to be that tanker boots have straps because they're quicker to get off if they get caught. Really makes me want to see what the inside of a tank is like and why it's so dangerous.

Mmm... shiny. I almost bought boots in England, I should have. I would have, if I'd had a sencond chance, but timing worked against me :/

I miss my boots with chains on, though :(

Those boots were pretty swanky.

the song.

Isn't it by Nancy Sinatra? If there is one by Roseanne Cash, I wanna hear it!

Oh, you're right. I goofed.

Neat! To do what?
Do's: The New Oxford Dictionary of English (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0198613474/202-4806539-3028600) (well, the 1998 edition) specifically lists "do's" as one of two ways to pluralise "do". It is silent on the issue of "don't's".

Apostrophes and punctuation: Fowler's Dictionary of Modern English Usage (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0192813897/102-5669565-3766567) and The Cambridge Guide to English Usage (http://uk.cambridge.org/linguistics/peters/) (a fairly recent tome) take similar approaches here, detailing the OUP's policy as mentioned yesterday (include or disclude punctuation according to sense). However, the latter book goes into more detail on the differences between American, British, Canadian and Australian policies. In particular, it says that Canadian publishing houses tend to take the American approach -- commas or full stops inside quotation marks, regardless of logic.

If I find anything further, I'll let you know.
"Well fuck them!", Dave said, "I'll put my punctuation outside, thank you very much".
And now for the correct version:

"Well fuck them!" Dave said. "I'll put my punctuation outside, thank you very much."

Y'know, I've observed recently that, for someone who goes barefoot as often as I do, I have an absurd collection of shoes and boots. Typically, I seem to have more Doc Marten's than anything else: my old pointy-toe eight-eyelets, my eight-eyelet ankle strap, the black velvet ones, the motorcycle boots that haven't been made in about 15 years, and the crown jewel of the lot - the hologram silver checkerboard pattern, which I have on good authority that there were only 500 pairs made.

Then there are my flat heeled, black leather thigh-highs, other "buccaneer" style boots in various colors, finishes, and heights (like the green suede that I need to get re-soled), and the umpteen pairs of granny boots - oh yeah; I feel the Boot Love, all right.

And of course, I found another pair of boots on the Zappos site that I want.

What can I say; I'm an old-school goth. The pointier the toes, the better! ;)

Date: 2005-01-20 12:02 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com
I have a couple pairs of pointy-toed goth boots left over from the 80s, and they're showing their age. I only wear them on very special gothy occasions, because they're so full of holes that I'm afraid they'll cross over into the unwearable at any moment. One pair has skull buckles!

Overall, I'm not that fond of pointy toes, though. My feet are long enough that extra point makes them look like cross country skis. Plus, pointy toes tend to cramp my feet in uncomfortable ways.

Still, those boots you just showed me are pretty sweet.
