shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)

I took a chance while at the studio. I skipped for about ten minutes, until my lungs felt like hot but sodden coals within my chest (asthma, of course). I also danced en levée for another ten minutes or so. My bad foot doesn't feel any worse for all of the tabu exercise. I enjoyed the skipping. I haven't done it for an extended period of time in over ten years. If my foot doesn't swell up and freak out on me this week in punishment, I think I'll get myself a skipping rope and try skipping every day. I think there's enough room for it in my apartment.

I also practiced playing my kasiklar for a while, choosing a very fast song. I couldn't quite keep up with the drums. Almost, but not quite. I had to incorporate pauses in my playing to keep up. Otherwise, the tak-tak-takking turned all to mush.

About half of my class showed up this afternoon. I shooed them home, assuring them class would be made up for at the end of the section. Although my walk there was cold, at least it wasn't as cold as it got in Pelly Bay, NWT in 1989:

Record Wind Chill - January 28, 1989. It was bad enough when the temperature dropped to -51°C in Pelly Bay, NWT but the wind made the air feel even colder when the wind chill equivalent reached -91°C (from Top Weather Events of the 20th Century)

Holy shit!

I was curious about what a "kasiklar" was, but a Google image search yielded only fishing lures. >_<

So what is it?

Kasiklar are hand-carved wooden spoons from Turkey which are played something like castanets.

Ahhhh, ok, now it makes sense. That must be a word for "spoon", 'cuz the lures were spoon-types and there was also a picture of measuring spoons thrown in there that I'd disregarded before. Cool! ^_^

You can see a picture of women learning to play them here.

Hi, I just added you to my friends list. The decision was initially based on your awesome arms. I'm always striving to achieve arms like yours. But after I read a little bit about you, I think I have a lot more reasons to add you as a friend. We have common interests in fitness and costume design. And I really like that you're so full of inspiration, energy and motivation.
I'm Mystress Prynne.
