shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)

Last night was even busier than the night before due to a bunch of people calling in sick. I booked about twice as many rooms as I did a week ago, and by the end of the night, I was so tired that my vision was blurred. Ugh.

I wish there was some way I could mute my telephones at home until about noon. I'm tired of being awoken at the middle of my night. No, nine thirty in the morning is not a respectable time to be calling someone who works night shifts. Ugh redux. I'm woken up an average of two times during my sleepy time by various things, and I haven't seen [livejournal.com profile] f00dave for three or four days. I'm supposed to see him tomorrow, though. We're going downhill skiing! Whee! I hope I get decent skis this time around.

Ready for your links? I thought so.

The Baby Name Wizard's NameVoyager: How popular was your name in the 1900s?

Ice Wall Project: The Alaskan Alpine Club puts a lot of time and effort into creating a huge climbing surface. It also doubles as art (thanks, Benoit).

String-Emil: Emil wants to show you his banana hammock (NSFW).

Darwin Day: Happy birthday, D-dog!

Pac Manhattan: "The Pac-Manhattan grid covers a 6 x 4 block area surrounding Washington Square Park. Intersections are designated by a letter and number starting in the top left corner and continuing left to right. Power pellets are located at the intersections A1; E1; A6; E7 (i.e. the corners of the board) If they are active their intersection is colored yellow, when consumed their intersection turns white. Washington Square Park is off limits to all players."

Afri-Cola: Creepiest cola ad I've ever seen (thanks, Suzanne).

I Cthulhu: Neil Gaiman's take on the Lovecraft mythos.

And now for a picture of a necrophiliac mouse.

Turn the ringers off! It's totally fair, and the only way night-shifters can, well, not go insane.

The problem is that I would definitely forget to turn them back on.

If you have voicemail, it's not entirely a bad thing. We went for several months without a phone due to some harassing calls -- turned the ringers off and checked them once in the morning and once at night. Of course, I did have my cel for my mom to call in case of emergency.

Afri-Cola ad is great; it's like the sort of ad that Dieter of "Sprockets" would want on station breaks. I did notice that at a quick glance, the Afri-Cola logo on the bottles looks like the old Afrika Korps insignia (swastika on a palm tree).
