By request, here's a recipe I came up with for a yummy, yummy soup.

It's different every time I make it, so substitute at will.

1 lb hamburger
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic chopped
1/2 big can of tomatos
about 5 cups of water
1 can kidney beans (rinsed to get rid of the fartiness)
1 cup salsa
1 small can tomato paste
1 Tbsp crushed red pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp marjoram
1 tsp basil
2 bay leaves

Brown the burger, onion, and garlic. Add everything else, and bring to a boil. Turn heat down and simmer until the consistency looks favourable.

That's it. Pretty simple, hmm? I find the soup tastes even better after it's been in the fridge for a day or two. It reheats really well.

Does rinsing the beans really reduce their fartitude?

Yes, if they're kidney beans. The 'brine' around the beans is what causes gas (apparently). Who knew? ;-)
