Work began deceptively slow. We were sometimes ten minutes between calls. It was relaxing, and I wiled away my downtime reading The Wizard of Oz. Then the calls started coming in with machine gun rapidity. I didn't worry. Sunday nights are usually slow. It was just a spike in calls, I reasoned.

I was wrong.

The calls kept coming and coming, with no end in sight. And then my telephone up and died on me, so I had to switch to a new workstation. And still the calls kept coming, like the swarms in Aliens. When I finished my shift at two AM (typically our slow time), the call volume was the highest I'd ever personally seen it. What on earth is going on?

On the plus side, when I got home and was getting ready for bed, I looked in the mirror and discovered a brand new muscle. My lats stand out like cables down my sides when I flex. Holy crap! Where the heck did they come from, all of a sudden? In any case, I'm off to the gym to make those cables larger.

I hadn't read them since I was a kid. I'm only five chapters in, but I'm finding that the story seems rushed. I wish he'd lingered a bit more on the scenes. Ah well.

I suspect it will take me a while. I'm reading it online at work when it's slow, and lately, slow times are scarce.

You triggered a fond memory mentioning Oz. It's been over 30 years and I never finished the series (i think we moved & it got boxed) but I think I'd like to look for them/buy them again. Thanx.

Back in my army dayz I could do over 150 lat pulls in 2 1/2 minutes (chin-ups w/bar coming behind the head touching lower neck). I was fairly scrawny (still am) but I could still flex my chest from 36" to 45" mainly because of the lat spread.

Ahh, the good ol' days...

I can do about two chin-ups in a minute, but then I'm all tuckered out. However, I can run around piggybacking a 200-lb guy on my back, so I guess it balances out.

I think I'm trading in all my fat (what little there is) for muscle. I'm at my lowest weight in about fifteen years, but I'm still adding plates to the machines at the gym. I'm wondering when my weight will stabilize and then when it starts to go up from muscle mass increase.

I was really good with a heavy Ruck sack too.

I found lat pulls to be easier than pull-ups or chin-ups. However I was somewhat slumped over back then. Overdeveloped upper back compared to a minimal chest.

Now I'm trading all my muscle for fat. I'm at my heaviest (but the season's starting soon and I'll lose it again)

I've never tried doing a lat pull. Hmm....

Awesome, keep working on your lats and even-
tually you'll be able to fly!

That would be so cool! And a good
shape for when you're made into a
pillow.
