Last night I watched Kung Fu Hustle and Scarface, which is as mismatched a double feature as it gets. I couldn't help but think of Anarchist Vampire's Hatchet Rydaz while I was watching the former, and focus on the intensity of Pacino's face throughout the latter. Both are great movies, and for wholly different reasons. Kung Fu Hustle is a romping farce, and Scarface is a tragedy of Shakespearian proportions.
f00dave went shopping for some new clothes yesterday, an experience which he relishes about as much as he does going in for a root
canal. In the end, he got two pairs of pant and two shirts, because he really does need something decent to wear to
snowy_kathryn and
zero_design's wedding. Jeans, sandals, and a grubby old tshirt just won't cut it. I tried on a few pairs of pants, too, because most of my
pants are only barely hanging on my merit of my pelvis. Much to my surprise, I realize I wear a size 1/2 (down from a 10/12). I
haven't been this size in about fifteen years. I guess all this exercise and (mostly) careful diet monitoring have been doing more
than I thought.
Before I bike off to the gym for another bout of training, here are a few more links.
Neighbours Lower Nazi Flag: "Ms. Duncombe had told the
Daily Telegraph she did not know what the flag signified until the controversy erupted, but would not remove it because her
four-month-old daughter liked its bright colours." Riiiight. I call bullshit.
Exploding Toads Baffle Experts: I guess the nonexperts are the ones who really know what's going on, then.
E-mails 'hurt IQ more than pot': How did they test such a thing? How can you carefully monitor the IQ of someone throughout the day? I call bullshit again.
American Hands: Americans co-opt a Japanese martial art with their superior American hands in order to quash the less skilled "Japanazis." Hmmm....
Reader, I shagged him: "It's 150 years since Charlotte Bronte died. Since then she has been sanitised as a dull, Gothic drudge. But, says Tanya Gold, the author was a frustrated, sex-obsessed genius."

Date: 2005-04-27 03:36 am (UTC)From:I loved Hustle for managing to parody almost every film I've watched in the last few years. If you haven't seen it, King of Beggars (1992-ish) is also quite a good film - not so much of a farce, but it has a good story.
