New poi tricks du jour:

Mexican wave (half a butterfly in front and behind, alternating)
Threading the needle (I can kind of sort of maybe do this leading through on the right hand, but it's not pretty. I'll give it another day or two, and then maybe it'll be ok)

Yesterday, I was practicing outdoors when two punky-looking girls walked by. They complimented me on my poi, and said they did fire poi, themselves. When I told them I've been doing it for three weeks on my own, they were impressed. I have no idea how I'm progressing on the grand scheme of things, but it doesn't really matter, so long as I continue to progress. Here's to getting those new tricks I'm working on down pat!

I tried out Suhaila's buns video this morning. I found it pretty easy, with the exception of keeping on the beat for the 3/4 buttock isolations. I'm just not speedy enough! So I've been working on that between calls. I'm just vibrating in my chair. Anyone who sees me cannot doubt I'm a spaz.

In other news, the sitting area in the office building has been decorated by a bunch of little advertisement cards. I picked one up. It's promotional material for what appears to be a group of Wesleyan steroid-enhanced muscle men who lift for God. I want to go see them. This is just too wonky to miss. It's at the First Wesleyan Church at 131 Duncan Lane from Wednesday, June 1 to Sunday, June 5th at 7:00. Who wants to go to muscle church with me?

---------

Update: It's the end of my second break, and I can now thread the needle with either arm. It ain't pretty, but it's a start.

I didn't know they came up to Canada. I have never seen them obviously, but someone I now who had said that by the end of the show (this was in a large auditorium) the stage was strewn with smashed and bent metal, wood, books, dented fridges, you name it.

Excellent. Now I need to go, for sure.

Oh yeah, I've seen those guys. Some of the stuff they do is pretty cool, but I really doubt the strength of all that concrete they smash. (Sometimes it just looks way too easy.) But they do smash huge ice blocks with their heads, that's gotta be tough...plus sometimes they'd do neat power-lifting stuff like dead-lifting a telephone pole or whatever.

(And I hope they've still got that big Samoan guy if you go see 'em. O_O He was really somethin' to behold.)

I wonder if Jesus was a heavy lifter?

Watch out because those bum-isolation exercises are very, very addictive. I took a master class with Suhaila in 2000 (btw she's coming to Toronto in november) and since I keep finding myself doing them! at the movies, at work, all over the place, my buttocks are doing triplets. and masmooti. and tsiftetelli. it's ridiculous. one of my teachers, roula said, had the same experience but she eventually stopped.

I can't vibrate, though.

I'd been doing those bum isolation exercises way before I'd ever heard of Suhaila. I can do vibrations easily, but I still can't do the alternating 3/4 at full speed. Now that I think about it, I can't air zill alternating triplets, either. I'll betcha it's all related. Hm...
