I enjoyed this snippet from Doris Humphrey's The Art of Making Dances:

...the greatest draw in the dance world among ballets is "Scheherazade," which, in the light of later developments and of what the dance might be, is no longer the mountain peak of artistic achievement the audiences think it is. To be blunt about it, this no longer looks exotic or glamorous or Arabian-Nightish; not even Nijinsky could save it now from looking like pure corneography.
