So I danced today at noon. It was another birthday party gig, this time at Brewbaker's restaurant patio. I hustled on down there in gold metallic pants, my blue velvet hipscarf, and my penny bra, and then I danced to Rachid Taha's "Habina Habina," following it up with a drum solo. It went over well enough. f00 says the birthday guy kept commenting on my hair. I have enough of it! I hope it didn't get in anyone's lunch.

At the end, during the ubiquitous photo shoot, the birthday guy was surprised at how warm I was. Heck! I just danced for seven minutes under a hot summer sun. What do you expect? My veins don't pump coolant, after all.

The hot weather has been shagging me right out, lately. I went home and fell unconscious on my bed for a couple of hours before I biked up the hill to work in the stickiest, hottest, muggiest weather. Ugh. I'm glad it's air-conditioned here at work.

My exercise regimen has been faltering as the weather gets hotter. I've gone kayaking a couple of times, but my gym time has shrivelled up. My dance practice at home has slowed down, too. My apartment isn't air conditioned, and all that hopping around only makes a hot home even hotter. So I've been living an indolent lifestyle, occasionally going out to buy an ice cream cone. Way to destroy my life of fitness and healthy eating, hmm? Ah well. The world can't burninate forever.

I just have to remind myself that the gym is air-conditioned, and maybe then I'll be more tempted to go work out.

I'll be on day shifts as of next week. That means I'll be biking up the hill while it's relatively cool (at 7:30 in the morning. Ack!). And then I'll be back to regular kung fu practice, at long last, where I will be able to evade being hit by simple merit of having punches slide off my sweaty, sweaty hide.

The heat is oppressive! The workshop in Greenwood was still fantastic even in the heat. WE were dropping like flies by mid-afternoon though. I swear, one day I will actually get to meet you! I run into scads of people we botht know, but we're never at the same place at the same time.

Some day we shall certainly meet!

I wish I could have been at the workshop, but alas, they needed me to book hotel rooms. Sigh....

Cool. I mean, hot. Have you ever seen the dancers in Morocco or elsewhere in North Africa? They dance a full performance in the most incredible outdoor heat...the fitness involved is truly amazing, and they are often as good as the best Egyptian or Lebanese club dancers. In the old days (I don't know about now), they'd do that for coins tossed at them. More recently its paper money slapped on their bodies (in some places), and I imagine she who sweats more makes more!

At least it's a dry heat in the desert. The humidity here is like being slapped all over the body with a freshly-steamed salmon.

I can relate. But then I live in the Deep South where the humidity is something you can swim in.

Hmm. It's hard to say, really. When I'm doing kung fu, I work out fiercely regardless of the temperature. But when I'm more... self-directed... I tend to slack off in the heat.

You forgot to mention my part: since there wasn't a table or anything convenient I got to ... stand still, holding the stereo at chest level. The 20lb stereo. That skips if you jar it too much. Yeah, as much fun as it sounds like, though certainly less work than the traipsing about you did. I suppose the difference is that you got 70$ for your work ... and I got your thanks. ;-)

I'll buy you a cookie!

Thank you, inky one.

I already had a cookie, stinky one. (A chocolate chip one from the machine at UNB ... tasty!)

And my ink is all a-peeling, FYI.
