shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)
I feel like I've lived many lives in thirty-four years. Parts of my timeline seem incongruous with others. Am I really the same person who lived off the land in the Rockies, danced on stage for thousands, was accused of being able to transmute into a spider, acted with a travelling Shakespearean troupe, used a dog team and sled to gather wood for the winter, proselytized from door to door, saw a man's corpse pressed beneath a red tractor, trained in kung fu with exhausted muscles in cold rain, helped birth goats, spun industrial music on late-night radio, shared a ham and cheese sandwich with a race horse, stood cold and naked before a room full of artists, got married on a theatre stage, and climbed apple trees at night to howled with the coyotes? I can't reconcile all of these things, yet they're part of my reality. And here I sit in front of a computer, waiting for anyone to call me to rent a hotel room. It's all rather surreal.

Can you transmute into a spider? That's cool!

It would be pretty cool, although I have to admit, I'd be chary of such a transformation. Spiders are much more easily squished and eaten by birds than I am.
For a while, we lived in a little place called Valemount. We didn't live just off the land (we still bought milk, sugar, and flour, for instance), but our main food was moose, rabbit, berries, mushrooms, rosehips, and chickens (raised by friends and cleaned/gutted by us kids). We were pretty much commies, since we traded food/clothing and so forth with other families, and looked after the kids for each other.

Aside from that, we've pretty much lived off gardens and berry picking everywhere I've lived, raising our own meat animals, and using pony or dog teams to haul our winter wood and so forth.

I'm a regular boy scout, although I've become rather citified.
I was in Valemount in June. The place is completely wired now (actually that should be wireless) - I was accessing the internet on my laptop from a car. It also seems to be mostly hotels.
I do remember quite a few hotels in the area. I'm guessing it's because it's so far between any other cities, and it's also pretty darned gorgeous.

Not many people have heard of it, though!
