This day has started off in a boggled fashion. Construction woke me up far too early, and my sleep-addled brain interpreted the sounds as the irregular snoring of robots.
And speaking of dreams, here's last night's:
I'm looking at high-res satellite imagery of New Orleans. I keep clicking on the pictures to get more and more detail, and finally, the picture turns into a 3-D diorama. To get a perspective on how deep the water is, I put my finger in. The water goes all the way to my first knuckle, so I realize just how dire the situation is. And then I fall in....
I'm in an emergency shelter, and everyone's hungry. I look around and see flowers growing in the floodwaters. They look like enormous waxen tulips. Firefighters show up with emergency rations. They're doling out peeled cucumbers wrapped in saran wrap. As I go to bite into it, the firefighter says, "Don't eat the seeds. We need to save those for the replanting effort."
I smile and say, "You're kidding, right?"
But he's not kidding. So I carefully scoop out the seeds and eat my tawdry meal of seedless cuke.
Then I wake up.
Getting to work this morning was problematic. After rushing downstairs to get my bike, I noticed someone had tampered with it. My jacket had been removed from the saddlebags, and a plastic bag which had been in there was tossed onto the ground. I guess someone was rifling through, looking for good stuff. Grr...
And then, when I went to leave the garage, I discovered the garage door was stuck shut. I couldn't get out! I tugged and tugged at the door, but I just couldn't get it open. So I rushed back upstairs and dragged a reluctant
f00dave down to exploit his bigger muscles.
He managed to heft the door open, and I raced off to work. Despite my hurry, I was still a bit late, and that's when I found out that my move could be progressing much more quickly than I thought. It looks like there may be a couple of job openings in Kitchener. This means I have to get my résumé and cover letter ready for Tuesday. I could be working the front desk at the hotel within a month or two. Whoa.
