I woke up with ghostings of cramps deep in my womandy bits. It was unpleasant and grinding. But I pushed myself out the door and meandered my way to the gym, where, although I was still lacking in energy, I somehow managed to up two more weights. I have now more than doubled my front raises from when I started about a month and a half ago. That's pretty quick progress, I think. Admittedly, I'm only hoisting 12lbs per arm for that particular exercise, but the muscles jump to attention while I do it.
And I also upped the tricep rope pull thingermabob to 60 (lbs, I think). While I was doing the exercise, I noticed a really bulked-up Polynesian-looking guy doing the same exercise. To my surprise, I saw he's doing the exact same weights as I was. So how does someone get so hale and hearty doing such low weights? I mean, from the looks of him, I'd expect him to be doing about twice what I can do.
I need to get back to my regular dance drills. I haven't done them in far too long. I think it will be much easier to get back into it when my new work schedule starts. I'll have an extra hour in the morning before I begin work. I must find a way to cobble together a DVD featuring the exercises I want to do in the order I want to do them in.
Some day, I will be able to study with an instructor again. I look forward to that time.
In the meantime, I plan on attending a tribal fusion workshop in Moncton next month. It's time to learn something new, and fraternize with other dancers again.

I really need to get back into the swing of things. I've been out of it since my last shift change.

Date: 2005-10-01 01:07 am (UTC)From:Do many people dance with poi where you are from? I don't do it here (Chch, NZ), as there is another troupe going for that "Kiwi flavoured" look and two of their dancers do it already, so I want to differentiate myself from them. Plus I suck at it, I came into school here just after the age group where everyone gets taught.... Now, firesticks, *they* look like fun...
