shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)
I woke up with ghostings of cramps deep in my womandy bits. It was unpleasant and grinding. But I pushed myself out the door and meandered my way to the gym, where, although I was still lacking in energy, I somehow managed to up two more weights. I have now more than doubled my front raises from when I started about a month and a half ago. That's pretty quick progress, I think. Admittedly, I'm only hoisting 12lbs per arm for that particular exercise, but the muscles jump to attention while I do it.

And I also upped the tricep rope pull thingermabob to 60 (lbs, I think). While I was doing the exercise, I noticed a really bulked-up Polynesian-looking guy doing the same exercise. To my surprise, I saw he's doing the exact same weights as I was. So how does someone get so hale and hearty doing such low weights? I mean, from the looks of him, I'd expect him to be doing about twice what I can do.

I need to get back to my regular dance drills. I haven't done them in far too long. I think it will be much easier to get back into it when my new work schedule starts. I'll have an extra hour in the morning before I begin work. I must find a way to cobble together a DVD featuring the exercises I want to do in the order I want to do them in.

Some day, I will be able to study with an instructor again. I look forward to that time.

In the meantime, I plan on attending a tribal fusion workshop in Moncton next month. It's time to learn something new, and fraternize with other dancers again.

Yes. She's running the workshop.

Can I ask please what your regular dance drills are? I have been really slack lately, and, having just attended Carolena Nerrichio's workshops in Sydney, now want to get back to my regular practise and development work.... It's always interesting getting ideas off other people though.

I was doing the Rachel Brice dance drills, plus segments from Suhaila Salimpour's yoga and Pilates DVDs. I'd like to add a few more elements from some other DVDs, too.

On top of that, I was working on a few combinations, including deep backbends with layered undulations, slow-mo Turkish drops, and mixing dance with poi.

I really need to get back into the swing of things. I've been out of it since my last shift change.
Know the feeling. :) I started a full time job (38.5 hours a week) last month, on top of teaching dance 5 hours a week and tutoring English four hours a week. We (my best friend and I) also have moved house into temporary accomodation after a flatmate threatened me and are only about to move permanently some time this next week, and I went to Australia last week. Any semblance of real, actual, true-to-form practise and drilling for myself (class teaching doesn't count, although at least it does something to maintain my fitness level...) has gone out the window...

Man I can't wait for this year to be over. :)

Oh, and thanks for giving me an insite into your routine. I haven't got the Rachel Brice DVDs, but want to at some stage. Deep backbends are going into my routine after we looked at them at the workshops in Sydney - have always thought about working on them, haven't got around to it.

Do many people dance with poi where you are from? I don't do it here (Chch, NZ), as there is another troupe going for that "Kiwi flavoured" look and two of their dancers do it already, so I want to differentiate myself from them. Plus I suck at it, I came into school here just after the age group where everyone gets taught.... Now, firesticks, *they* look like fun...
