shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)
So now I begin the desperate attempt to find someone to take a Friday shift from me next month. I need it off so I can attend a dance workshop in Moncton. I applied to get the day off, but was turned down, as per usual. I'm very tired of passing up so many opportunities for a job I have no great love for. I will get to the workshop, even if I have to take a sick day to do so. I'd much prefer I could trade or give my shift to someone else, though. Here's hoping....

This morning, while I was sitting on the toilet all bleary-eyed and unawake, I reached up to wipe at my nose. It felt boogerlicious. Then I took a look at my finger and saw a fruit fly sitting there.

Now, I'm pretty sure it was not in my nose. There are no bananas or apples up there. But it was a bit disconcerting to imagine my nose is the source of insects in the world. Perhaps I'm a Baali and don't even know it.

Man, I'm jonesing to play Vampire something fierce. It's been about two years....

In other news, now that the Kitchener move has fallen through, I'm thinking that maybe I should try to get to Ottawa, instead. I know I enjoy the city, and although I don't really know anyone there, I've heard good things about the dance scene there. I guess I should try for that, next.

I hate it when you ask for time off and then they don't give it. I usually use sick days when that happens.

Apparently, I had to ask for that time off two weeks earlier than I did. But I didn't find out about the workshop until after that deadline.

It sucks.

Did you consider Hamilton? Nice place to live, close to Toronto, fledgling bellydance scene, not as cold or as fuck-all boring as Ottawa (no offense, Ottawonians, but I've been there and the place is as soulless as Dick Cheney). Lotsa jobs.

I couldn't get transferred to Hamilton. The company doesn't have any hotels there.

Byron lives there, and Skippy and Kathleen... Matt Hickey and Kate Hunt do as well, but I'm not sure if you know them.

I don't know Matt or Kate very well. I know the others, but we've been out of touch for years.

Why are you so obsessed with your current company? I know it sounds heretical, but perhaps you could consider applying for a job outside it? You'll be pretty limited, otherwise.

True, but I think I'd be able to keep some seniority as well as my benefits (life insurance, health insurance, etc.). Plus, I know it's a good company to work for, and I'm suspicious of other corporations.

That, and my supervisors will actually help me find a job within the company. I don't think they'd be so supportive if I jumped ship.

Sorry to hear about the job.

I'm in Ottawa and I am surprised at the number of Francophones/billingual persons here. I'm sure it's a town very similar to Fredericton, where most of the sweet jobs require you to be proficient in both official languages. I'm sure the larger population would benefit you as far as dance classes, though.

Ottawa reminds me of an upsized Fredericton.

I'll just have to look into it.
