Because of both
f00dave and my spurts in creativity lately, and because I've been plagued by guilt regarding my no-show status with NaNoWriMo, I have begun making notes for yet another dance costuming book. This one will deal more with tribal and tribal fusion costuming. In my very sporadic times between calls, I've been doing sketches and notes on hand-made fringe.
This is inspired by the belt I've been working on. So far, it's coming along marvelously, despite all the annoyances of sewing leather by hand. The colour combination is working out very well indeed, and it's a much girlier costume than I'm used to wearing, with its floral motif.
snowy_kathryn and Guylaine both like what they've seen. I'll post pictures as soon as I get something decent to share. Next up, a top and skirt to match!
I've also been thinking a lot more about jewellery made of leather, bones, stone, and beads. I should start bringing a small sketchbook to work so I can doodle and design. I don't think I've ever seen a book on making jewellery for dance, and I'll betcha I could make such a thing (jewellery for people without metal studios and fancy tools).
So what do you think? Will people want to buy a book on how to make tribal bras, tassel belts, fringe belts, tiered skirts, fancy dance pants, hair falls (which I've yet to experiment with), and the ilk? Will they want to know how to make costumes with leather, upholstery fabric, and hand-painted finishes? Of course they will! So I need to get ON my arse and do something about it.
Any special requests for inclusion? Let me know.
