Yesterday, I learned the basics of crochet, and made myself one hell of an ugly flower. It's rather Cthulhu-esque. I'll need to take a picture to show off its hideousity.
Last night was odd. I went out to the computer science faculty Christmas party with
aberrantmist,
f00dave, and f00's thesis advisor, Lev. The food was good (better than my own company's Christmast party), and afterwards we danced. I got to watch faculty get up and dance while smacking their own arses. Lev danced the Twist with me, and then a bunch of us did the limbo under my poi chain. f00 even danced with me to ABBA's Dancing Queen. And yes, I did lots of poi stuff, too. f00 made videos and took photos. Maybe he'll make a photo post on the event.
When we got back home, stentorious Russian lecturing began. Lev is an expert on everything, including on things he's never even heard of. At one point, he told me I shouldn't be doing kung fu because my muscles aren't big enough to handle it.
Now,
snowy_kathryn has been filling my brain with dangerous thoughts: a steampunk dance costume. I'm thinking of a tuxedo-style pinstripe jacket, cropped up front like a Turkish dance vest to reveal a dance bra with watch and clock cogs instead of coins. The dance belt would be of a corset-like design, also with pinstripes, with cogs, nuts, bolts, and washer detailing. Goggles go along with it, of course. I'm still not certain about the skirt/pants and hair. Fingerless gloves would probably go along with it, though. Hmm... Maybe a bustle could be used, too! Just thinking about this made me go and join the
anachrotech community again. I haven't hung around there in a couple of years....
And as for music to dance to, how about Rasputina? I think that could work quite nicely.
Today is the last day of my vacation. What do I have to show for it? A finished dance belt, a started dance bra, an ugly crocheted flower, aching hamstrings, a motley assortment of kung fu-caused bruises, two sentient pumpkin pies, another dot in poi knowledge (last night I figured out poi barrel turns, and have begun figuring out working with four poi simultaneously), and a very full stomach.
Maybe I didn't accomplish all I'd wanted to, but I'm not exactly disappointed. I did accomplish plenty, and got in some much needed R&R.
And now I need to get ready to teach my dance class. Today's lesson is all about travelling steps.
