I danced downtown for about an hour today. Kathryn joined me. Although the tourists seemed keen, the overall ambience was one of irritation. When I arrived, some of the artists working there were complaining about just about everything, from the incessant drumming of the redcoated guards marching back and forth around town to the colour of their orange extension cord. I was allowed to set up my dance stuff, but I could tell that my dancing probably annoyed them, too. Well, bugger 'em if they don't know how to enjoy themselves. If they didn't want to see people out and about doing noisy people things and wearing colours which don't please them, they ought not to have prostituted their art for the benefit of tourism.

Anyhow, I did get some dancing in, even if it felt rather half-spirited. Now, I'm working on another tribal belt. This one is being made from a terrific fabric score I made at a thrift shop. I found three meters of navy blue Indian cotton shot through with bands of metallic gold, and decorated by evenly-spaced tie-dye spots. The dying was all done by hand, and I paid less than three bucks for the lot of it. Yee haw!

In other news, dance classes resume tomorrow. If you're interested, they're held Saturdays from 3:30-4:30 at the GoodLife Fitness Centre at the SuperStore, on the corner of York and Dundonald. Classes are $12 each, or $60 for six weeks ($48 for GoodLife club members). I teach mixed level classes, and pending on interest, may be starting additional classes on weeknights elsewhere. I also have a whole boatload of hip scarves and dance belts from Turkey and Egypt for sale, in addition to other costuming elements (swords, pantaloons, coins, beledi dresses, etc.).
