shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)
I was woken up at 1:30 this morning with an excruciating earache, of the sort I thought I'd put behind me when I'd left my teens. I called Telecare, and they saw no need for me to go to the emergency room, despite the unbearable agony. So I popped two Advil, got inebriated, got a couple of drops of olive oil and a wad of cotton jammed in my ear, and went back to bed. On the plus side, while I was panicking from the pain, I found my missing watch.

I'm supposed to see a doctor today, but there's no way I can. Although the earache is extant, it's no longer excruciating. I'm just mostly deaf on that side because of the cotton. It could be a blessing, because the guy who's sitting to my right (who also has call centre plague) is really loud, and this way, I'll have an easier time ignoring him while I'm on calls.

I went to physio this morning. The therapist gave me a couple of exercises I'm supposed to do (massage across the tendon where my leg joins my crotch; squats against the wall, focusing on the glutes and muscles surrounding my knee; leg raises while lying on my side, again using glutes and muscles around the knee). She ultrasounded the damaged area, and also used some sort of electrocution device which stimulates and relaxes the muscle. Was it a TENS machine? I don't know. It had two pads, and used lots of blue K-Y.

Yesterday was spent sewing and watching movies (Tipping the Velvet and another whose name escapes me). I'm almost finished my dance top. I'm pleased with what I rigged up for the neck strap. I took three strands of Colinette yarn (it's the huge, bloompy shaped wool) and laid them beside one another along a piece of grosgrain ribbon, staggered so it was relatively uniform in width. Then I stitched it down with green upholstery thread. The end result is really pretty, albeit time-consuming to create, and I think it would look terrific as a scarf. I guess that means I have another project lined up, if I can get more of the yarn!

I'm still trying to figure out what to do for the skirt for this outfit. Originally, I'd planned on using the same green cotton I used for the ties on the belt, but I don't have enough left. So now I'm contemplating using a blue/purple peacock feather print cotton I have. The colours go, but I'm afraid it will look too busy. I guess I'll just have to do some draping and photograph the results to see how it looks.

So far, work is slow (a call every five-ten minutes). Let's hope it stays that way.

It was kind of fun, once I got over the initial ... shock.

Oh funny, I always thought it was called Stem.

Hmmmm....am I going to have to go out to the trunk of the car and get my big box of rimshots for the rest of this conversation? ;-)

"Primer"

Right.

Hmm. Why was it called that? Was it because by travelling in time, they were priming the pump, so to speak?

I found it slow to get going, and in my confused, sickened state, difficult to follow. But [livejournal.com profile] f00dave got it, and explained the bits I didn't to me. Heh...

Sure! Even the nigh-incomprehensible ending. :-)

hi there -- i'm friending you because of common interests in dance/movement/fitness, sewing, design/art, and so on. (my background is in classical ballet but these days i'm into circus arts and i'm trying to gain lots and lots of upper body strength.) i'm also a compulsive chronicler -- i like that phrase.

I can make yarn just like the colinette in pretty much any colour combo! I've been selling it to local Tribal dancers who want to make the newest style of belts for themselves, and also Tribal hairpieces. Very much fun. Of course, I use them for the exact same thing!

Awesome! How much do you charge?

Man, what did you think of Tipping the Velvet? We rented it, and I couldn't bear to watch more than one episode.

It got better in the second episode, but it's still not great. I read a few reviews, and apparently the book, unsurprisingly enough, is FAR superior. I may check it out.
