shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)
Last night, while walking home, I decided that I want a lapdog. Not a yappy one. I can't stand yappy little dogs. But I could see myself with an ittybitty mutt. Honestly, I'd prefer a huge mastiff or wolfhound, but that's just not feasable in an apartment. A chihuahua would fit, though, and wouldn't cost a whole lot to feed.

Hmmm....

Happy foodmas! I got some loot from [livejournal.com profile] f00dave: a whole buttload of candles (not my butt, though), two handmade leather braid-holders (I'm currently wearing them as pigtails), some candies, some oranges, a pair of wool mitts with embroidered skulls, and a big wool sweater with a big skull. I feel skullicious today, because I wore it all with my skull hat. Now I'm dying of heat from walking to work as quickly as possible.

I was running late for work, and coincidentally, met [livejournal.com profile] gha5t just as I was about to walk into my office building. He gave me the keys to his apartment so I can check in on Pookey the Cat while he and Linda are touring Montreal. It's a good thing he bumped into me, or that would have been a lonely cat.

Not that she's terribly social. She mostly stares at people, and gets offended when you pick her up or pat her. Still, she'd be disappointed if no one gave her treats/catnip every now and then....

[livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn arrives tonight. f00 and I are driving to Moncton to pick her up. I hope she likes her presents!

little dogs

We have a 5-year old chihuahua. She's the quietest little creature, didn't bark or make any noise at all until she was a year old and staying at a boarding kennel. I think that's when she realized that dogs were supposed to bark at things! So now she barks when people come to the door or at cars arriving in the driveway. She still is really quiet, easy to feed, easy to pick up after--the perfect little dog.

That's good to hear! Maybe I will end up with a mini-mutt sometime.

I read somewhere that chihuahuas were bred to hound down black bears. (Small body/no hair == critters that get hot slower than the bear. Which, in Mexico...)

I've given them a bit more respect since that. Also, it'd be cool to use as a training aid of sorts 'Your ancestors chased bears. Why are you scared of that squirrel?'

I guess that would explain the big, ballsy attitude I've seen on most chihuahuas.

I have a 90-pound German shepherd in a 1.5 bedroom apartment. He's just fine with it (in fact, when I got him a year ago, I lived in a studio). They are sedentary dogs and are fine with small apartments as long as they get their walks.

But their poops are much larger than chihuahua poops. And they eat a lot more....

When I get a bigger place, I'll get myself a big dog.

Chihuahua!? Nawwww... if you're going small, my advice is to go with goofy-cute instead of jumped-up-rat. Daschund or if that's not feasible then Pug.

I loveses Daschunds...

Daschunds are too big, and pugs are too drooly. I want a dog that doesn't drool, and that will fit in my purse.

*nods* Daschunds fit into the "small-dog" catagory in my brain. But outside of puppy-ness, they probably wouldn't fit in your purse, no. I didn't know that Pugs were drool-y dogs... learn something new every day ;)

There are miniature dachsunds. They're pretty small.

*g* But Dachshunds (which is the correct spelling - trust the German ;) ) have an attitude and then some ...

Little dogs suck. Get a couple rats until you have a bigger place.

We have what seems to be a chihuahua/pug mix (or a totally throwback looking pug, anyway she can breathe) who decided to use all excitement of Christmas to see if she could get away with peeing on the livingroom carpet again. Also, while she probably does eat less and perhaps even poops less, her poops are the same size as the ~80lb lab/husky/? mix. Dogs are weird.

I'd get rats, but I want a pet that doesn't need to be kept in a cage. Also, rats are pretty stenchy. I like my rodents mostly scent-free (like chinchillas and gerbils).

How does a chihuahua/pug cross crap like a husky? Impressive.
