SC: No, I'm sorry.

Me: Ok, I'll check availability, and then you can always add the number to the reservation once you find the card.

Me: I have a variety of rooms available, and they start with the...

SC: Excuse me, but I have to interject. This is very frustrating. I stay at the hotel all the time, and my preferences are all clearly laid out on my frequent stayer profile. I don't see why I have to go through this every time I call.

Me: I'm sorry, sir, but without your card number, I have no way of seeing that information.

SC: Oh.

A database can have the customer's name or credit card number be a searchable key just as easily as "membership number."

Actually, I did ask if he could confirm his credit card. He could not, so I couldn't release confidential information to him.
