shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)
On the way back from our fruitless fishing expedition, a strange thing happened. Somehow, we were discussing the behaviour of chickens, and I exposited on the cannibalistic nature of the birds. When my father was butchering chickens, he would chop the heads off. The surviving chickens would fight over the still gaping and blinking heads.

Lena was appalled at this description and said, "Russian chickens would never do that."

She was serious.

I tried to explain to her that chickens are chickens, no matter what country they lived in, but she was adamant.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Russian chickens do have much more highly-developed mores.

I dreamt last night that one of my husbands co-workers was raising these blue chickens that laid blue eggs (the shells and the yolks were blue). She was going to give me several chicks so that I could start raising them too.

Very odd. And your mention of chickens reminded me of it. :)

There are chickens that lay blue eggs (and green eggs, too). I can't remember the name of the breed, but they aren't the same colour as their eggs. Pity....

Yes, they're called Eastern bunnies. Not chicken.

They're Araucanas.

I don't like to give people's phone numbers out to strangers. However, if you give me your number, I can pass it on to him.

I've been meaning to mention, and this is as good a time as any, that I really like that icon...

Well thank you! I ought to get an icon of me fighting, now. Whee!

And what is your icon? It looks like a pixellated autopsy, maybe.

Naw. It's a detail of a mural I did. That particular portion is about 1' x 1'.

Where's the rest of it, then? I wanna see!

Date: 2003-08-30 06:45 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] prolixfootle.livejournal.com
The rest of it is my bedroom wall (about 7' x 12', and that's why it looks pixilated - it's painted on cinderblock) and unfortunately, my photog skills aren't quite up to the task of creating a decent picture out of that. Plus, I'd have to move my bed out of the way...

Russian chickens?

Yesterday, I was browsing websites about medieval Russia, and one site (http://goldschp.freeservers.com/femnames.html) quoted a Russian proverb, which began: "Chickens aren't birds..."

That's odd. Although I can see why women weren't considered people, I can't see why chickens weren't considered birds. Is it because they don't fly? I need more exposition!
