I went to Body Pump today: a group weight-lifting class. I really enjoy this class, as it goes over some technique I was previously unfamiliar with, like the naughtily-named clean and jerk. It also keeps me motivated, with the very simple "choreography" (if you can call it that) and the well-chosen music that goes along with the routine. I stayed after for a couple of minutes to make sure I was doing the movements correctly, because I'll be upping the weights the next time around. The instructor is Lori, a gal busting with muscles. She showed me the technique, and I copied it exactly on the first try.
She was filled with amazement at this, and was also impressed at my questions, my use of queueing, and my level of fitness. She asked me my background. I told her I study martial arts, teach dance, and taught group fitness classes several years ago, and she asked me if I'd tried out Body Jam (the dance workout class). I haven't (it's at the same time as my meditation class).
She told me to try out a few at one of the other gyms (included in my membership), and see what I thought. And then, if I like it, I'm to let her know, and I just might have myself a job teaching it.
So go me, hmm? Cross your fingers!
In a couple of hours, I'm going to go try out Body Combat. At the very least, it will give me a cardio workout. At the best, it will also give me an opportunity to practice kung fu technique.
In completely unrelated news, I started watching Starsky and Hutch. I made it thirteen minutes in before I ejected the DVD in horror. Now, I watch a lot of movies, including a lot of bad movies, but this one was just too much for me. Yikes.
