shanmonster: (Elbow smash dance move!)
I was all set to go to a cardio dance class tonight, but when I got to the bus stop, I discovered the bus wouldn't get me there until ten minutes after the class had started. There's no way I'm cabbing it, so I'm home for the evening.

I'm currently being love-bombed by Tasselhoff, an enormous purring calico feline crushing my lap, and coating every inch of my bare arms with prickly-tongued cat kisses. Eugh! She's not normally a lapcat, so this is a bit strange. She must be after something.

When I go for groceries, I pass by a yard with a swing hanging out of a tree. This isn't a normal swing, though. It's a skateboard without wheels hung by a central rope. Every time I pass by, there are a couple of young men air-skating. They zoom through the air, and jump off the board, catching it with their hands, before stepping back down on it and zooming off in the other direction. It looks like great fun! I love watching, and I desperately want to go over and say, "Hi! Whatcha doin'? Can I try, too?"

Maybe one of these days, when I'm not loaded down with groceries, I'll do just that.

Have you ever heard of this before, or seen it done? Does this strange activity have a name? I want to know!

Since I stood myself up for dance, I have to find something to keep myself occupied. And that something shall be continuing The ShanMonster Writing Machine. There's still time to climb on board. I'm currently struggling with [livejournal.com profile] admnaismith's request.

I can't quite fathom that swing thing, sorry. Draw a picture, or reexplain?

t's a skateboard with no wheels. In the very centre of it is a rope (like a carousel horse with its pole, only it's a skateboard and a rope). When no one's on it, it hangs level, rightside-up. The rope is tied to the tree, like a tire swing.

Capiche?

I get that part, I don't get what the guys were doing with it. Reread your description with fresh eyes....

Reread your request. You asked for a picture or description of the swing thing.

They hang on to the rope, like they would a tire swing, but they're standing on the board. When they get to the apex of the swing, during the hang time bit, they let go of the rope, and grab on to the board with their hands, or jump off the board with their feet, grabbing onto the board. When the hang time is over, they grab the rope and keep swinging.

I don't know how to explain it any better than that. Maybe we can make a video the next time we get groceries, if they're still doing it.

Much better, and yes, I wasn't precise in my request. I'll be better next time, love-muffin. ;-)
